What’s your business and how did you get started?
My business is The Tara CPA Firm – a business focused on Tax Strategy rather than just “doing the books” for your company. I started my business in hopes to help other profitable women entrepreneurs legally and ethically lower their tax bill and build long-term wealth. I believe making money is only half the battle; that KEEPING more money is where true financial freedom begins. Too many women entrepreneurs work tirelessly, only to hand over massive chunks of their income to the IRS because no one ever taught them a better way. The Tara CPA Firm changes that by going beyond tax prep – offering a year-round, strategic partnership that empowers women to make smart financial decisions, grow their businesses sustainably, and reclaim both their time and their wealth. The goal is to ensure tax planning isn’t ignored until April; empowering women to UNDERSTAND their numbers and making smarter financial decisions; and ultimately changing lives, families, and futures by enacting one mission: Freedom, impact, and living life on your terms INSTEAD of judging success by numbers alone.
What is one thing you’re really proud of that you’ve created or accomplished?
I passed all 4 parts of the CPA exam in 8 months, on the first attempt, all while working full-time in public accounting.
Getting my business to 7 figures in its first 10 years in existence (I got it to 6 figures in the first 12 months… but then was burnt out by month 18, so it’s not all sunshine and roses, haha). A business that now supports 5 other employees while also raising 4 kids. All while staying true to who I am – not falling prey to being someone I’m not, selling out, or compromising the elite level of service my clients deserve.
What’s your favorite thing about being a business owner?
It’s an even split between tax deductions and helping people reclaim their passion as business owners.
What is the boldest thing you’ve ever done in business?
Joined the Certified Tax Coaches conference and flew out to San Diego inside of a week while I had a 13-month-old at home (and unknowingly pregnant with another!)
What’s one thing you’re currently excited about for the future of your business?
Finally being able to help businesses that have been left behind.
What’s your best business advice you would give to other women?
Focus on building something that’s sustainable – quick-cash or trendy aren’t tenable in the long run. The few exceptions to the rule are just that, exceptions. Build something that’s not only going to exist alongside your personal life, but amplify it.
