Join us for today’s feature, Diana Stobo, offering a behind the scenes look at some of what she has done to succeed so far, advice for those starting off, and plans for the future.

What’s your business and how did you get started?

I am in the business of making people a better version of themselves. Many years ago, I healed myself through food and learned many modalities of healing, and it felt only natural to share my gifts and knowledge with the world. I created and built The Retreat Costa Rica, a regenerative world-class wellness hotel and spa that sparkles with crystal energy and nature. It’s a destination where people can unwind, reboot and truly paint a portrait of the life they want for themselves.

What is one thing you’re really proud of that you’ve created or accomplished?

I don’t often look at what I have accomplished and pat myself on the back, but there are a few things that are brought to my attention that I can talk about. I spend copious amounts of time with my staff, teaching, training and providing tools and skills for them to develop as people. I am protective and loyal, which has always been recognized and appreciated. My attention to detail is keen, and I take pride in engineering a beautiful experience for my guests.

What is the boldest thing you’ve ever done in business?

Buying property in Costa Rica sight unseen and embarking on a multi-million-dollar hotel build was the most courageous and semi-ridiculous thing I have ever done. It is a testament to my resilience and adaptability, which are traits crucial in the world of business. If I had thought it through, I might not have taken such a brazen leap of faith, but it was a valuable lesson in the importance of being bold and adaptable in the face of challenges.

What’s one thing you’re currently excited about for the future of your business?

Expansion in every sense of the word. I want the current property to expand to its full potential and to include other locations, so my guests have new places to visit without compromising their concierge luxury wellness desires.

What’s your best business advice you would give to other women?

Women, by nature, are problem solvers; we tend to get caught up in the emotional parts of an issue and feel our way through it. Don’t let the small matters weigh you down; focus on the prize, your intentions and your goals. Things work out, and what’s meant for you will always come for you.

What’s your favorite thing about being a business owner?

I am passionate about wellness, so having a business structure to build and create profound change in the world is an honor. My favorite part of being a business owner is the empowerment it brings – the ability to be the master of my destiny. There are many responsibilities that come with that title and I take them very seriously, but the sense of control and empowerment is what keeps me going.
